Exciting News: Our Podcast Launches Next Week!

We are thrilled to announce that our upcoming podcast has received an incredible response from the scholarly community. Thanks to the enthusiasm and support of our guests, we are excited to bring you weekly conversations that delve into the heart of important societal issues.

Episode 1: Dr. Kristian Karlson (March 26, 2024)

Episode 2: Dr. Guadalupe Marquez-Velarde and Dr. Christopher Rider (April 2, 2024)

Dr. Guadalupe Marquez-Velarde is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Utah State University. She earned her PhD in Sociology from Texas A&M University. Dr. Marquez-Velarde’s main research interests are population health, intersectionality, and broader issues of racial inequality; her expertise includes Immigrant, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ health, as well as demography.

Dr. Marquez-Verlarde is the lead author of an article in the Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, titled “The Paradox of Integration: Racial Composition of NFL Positions from 1960 to 2020.” She will be joined on the podcast by Dr. Christopher Rider from the University of Michigan, who is the lead author of an article in the American Journal of Sociology, titled “Racial Disparity in Leadership: Evidence of Valuative Bias in the Promotions of National Football League Coaches” for a discussion of racial bias in the NFL. Episode 3: Dr. Adel Daoud (April 9, 2024)

Episode 4: Dr. Jaclyn Wong (April 16, 2024)

Dr. Jaclyn S. Wong is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and a Faculty Affiliate of the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of South Carolina. She received her PhD in Sociology with a graduate certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies from the University of Chicago. Her research uses qualitative and quantitative methods to examine gender inequalities in paid and unpaid work within and between couples and families over the adult life course.

She has published articles in outlets like Gender & SocietyJournal of Family Theory and Review, Journal of Family Issues, and the Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences. Her book, Equal Partners? How Dual-Professional Couples Make Career, Relationship, and Family Decisions is now available from the University of California Press.

Dr. Wong is the lead author of a recent study published in Gender & Society, titled “The Myth of Mutuality: Decision-Making, Marital Power, and the Persistence of Gender Inequality,” which we featured on our blog. Click here to read more.
